More Than a Frequency: Why Partnership is the Heartbeat of Joy 96.5

In the media industry, we have a lot of technical terms. We talk about reach, frequency, impressions, and conversions. We talk about sponsorships and ad buys. But if you walk through the doors of Joy 96.5, or if you sit down for coffee with me, you will notice those words are not the ones we lead with.

There is a reason for that. Those are the words of a transaction. In a world that is increasingly disconnected, the last thing we need is more transactions. What we need, and what our community is truly looking for, is relationship. At Joy, we have built everything on a single, foundational distinction: the difference between a sponsorship and a partnership.

The Transactional Trap: Why Sponsorship is Not Enough

Sponsorship is simple. It is a line item on a budget. You give something, and you receive something back. It is essentially a receipt. While it is effective for visibility, it is often a “one and done” interaction. It is like a billboard you drive past at high speed. It exists, but it does not know you.

Partnership is different. Partnership is relational. It is adaptive, grounded in trust, and deeply committed. While a sponsor asks, “What do I get?” a partner asks, “What can we build together?” At Joy 96.5, we are not looking to simply sell airtime. We are looking to walk alongside people. We lead with the opportunity for community because we know that when we are truly connected, we do not just survive obstacles. We overcome them together.

Pictured above is a lunch meeting I was blessed to have with national directors of Leader Impact as well as local area Pastors and Ministry Leaders. This was a lunch where we gathered and broke bread and listened. We celebrated the kingdom building that was represented around the table and encouraged one another when we shared about the obstacles and challenges. This was partnership in motion. Investing into one another to gain nothing in return except encouragement in sharing the same mission and being able to lean on one another.

Our Business Partners: Beyond the 30-Second Spot

I am incredibly proud of the over 40 organizations that trust us with their messaging. These are not just advertisers. These are local business owners who believe that their company can be a force for good.

When a local business partners with us, they are not just buying a commercial. They are joining a conversation. They are saying that they want to be where the light is. We work with them to ensure their mission aligns with our community’s needs. This creates a synergy that helps their business grow while simultaneously fueling the hope we broadcast every day.

Our Impact Partners: The Hands and Feet

Then there are the dozens of non-profits and churches we have the honor of walking with. These are our Impact Partners.

Radio has a unique megaphone effect, but a megaphone is useless if you do not have something worth saying. Our partners in the non-profit and church sectors are the ones doing the heavy lifting in our community. They are feeding the hungry, supporting families, and providing spiritual anchors. Our role is to stand beside them, amplify their call to action, and serve the community as a unified front.

Our Financial Partners: The Fuel of Hope

Because we are listener-supported, our donors are perhaps the purest example of partnership. These are not subscribers paying for a service. They are investors in the spiritual and emotional health of their neighbors.

Every donation is a vote of confidence. It is a statement that says, “I believe this message needs to stay on the air for the person who is listening today and feels like giving up.” That is not a transaction. It is a lifeline. We thrive because our listeners believe in the mission enough to put their own resources behind it.

Our Listening Partners: The Silent Connection

Finally, we have our listeners. If you turn on Joy 96.5 in your car, you are not just a data point in a ratings book. You are a partner in the atmosphere we are creating together.

When you listen, when you share a song with a friend, or when you call in to share a story, you are helping to build this community. You are the reason we do what we do. The relationship between the voice on the air and the person listening is one of the most sacred partnerships we have.

Why It Matters: Growing and Adapting Together

The reason we prioritize the word “partnership” is not just because it sounds better than “sales.” It is because partnership is how we thrive.

The world changes. The media landscape shifts. Obstacles, whether they are economic, social, or personal, are inevitable. A sponsor might leave when things get tough. A partner sits down at the table and asks how we can pivot together.

It is this collaborative spirit that has allowed Joy 96.5 to grow and adapt. We do not have all the answers, but we have the right people around the table. Whether you are a business owner looking to make an impact, a non-profit leader serving the vulnerable, or a listener looking for a sense of belonging, there is a place for you here.

We do not want to just do business with you. We want to walk with you. At the end of the day, we are more than a radio station. We are a community. And we are always better together.
